1-Day Kilimanjaro Hike – Mandara Hut (Marangu Route)

OVERVIEW

A hike to Mandara Hut, the first hut along Mount Kilimanjaro’s Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is a perfect short adventure for those who want to experience the mountain without climbing to the summit.

It is about a one-hour drive from Moshi Town to Kilimanjaro National Park’s Marangu Gate, which is the starting point of the hike. From the gate (1,970m), the walk to Mandara Hut (2,700m) takes approximately 3–4 hours.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will meet your guide and drive to Marangu Gate. Upon arrival, you will complete park registration before starting your hike.

The trail passes through a beautiful montane rainforest, where you can enjoy rich greenery, tall eucalyptus trees, and a variety of bird species. You may also spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and other primates along the way.

Midday:
Arrive at Mandara Hut for a well-deserved rest and lunch. Afterward, take a short optional walk to Maundi Crater, where you can enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Northern Tanzania, and even parts of Kenya on a clear day.
