OVERVIEW
Lake Chala is a stunning crater lake located on the eastern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, right on the border between Tanzania and Kenya. Known for its crystal-clear and steep crater walls, Lake Chala offers a peaceful and scenic escape from the busy town.
The lake is fed by underground streams and is considered one of the deepest inland water bodies in Africa. Surrounded by lush vegetation, it is home to wildlife such as baboons, monkeys, monitor lizards, and a variety of bird species.

Morning:
You will depart early from Moshi and drive towards Himo Town via the main road. From Himo, continue towards the Taveta border before turning off onto a rough road leading to Lake Chala.
The drive takes approximately 3–4 hours, passing through local villages and changing landscapes—from dry plains to green forest areas where you may spot wildlife such as antelopes and primates.
Midday:
Upon arrival at Lake Chala, enjoy a picnic lunch while taking in the breathtaking views of the crater lake.
After some rest, you will descend down to the lakeshore, where you can relax, explore the area, or take an optional boat ride on the lake.
Afternoon:
Spend time enjoying the peaceful environment, fresh air, and scenic beauty before hiking back up and returning to your vehicle.
You will then begin the drive back to Moshi, where the tour ends.
